Aliya looks for her dad
-
Aliya, a little Uyghur girl, follows her father to the grand bazaar to buy sheep, herheart full of excitement and anticipation. After they have bought the sheep, her father goes to have the vehicle fixed, telling Aliya to wait for him right there. At first a horse is startled, then a rainstorm descends, and the bazaar erupts into chaos. Aliya loses her way in the commotion. In the vast market, the figure and feeling of a small girl seem utterly insignificant. But people notice her and come forward to help, one after another. Together, they call out her father's name until they found him. The very atmosphere of the bazaar sweeps over you as the pages are turned, while at its heart pulses a child's timid wonder and fluster. The earthy yellows and russet brown spreading across the illustrations evoke a harsh, solid and warm land, as the busy folk around pause and offer their care for Aliya. Lifted up amid the clamor and spectacle of the bazaar, her red dress kindles the labor and hubbub with a bright spark.
