The Child Who Tames The River

  • A beautifully illustrated picture book set against the backdrop of the Liangzhu culture (3300-2250 BCE) in ancient China. It tells the story of a brave young boy who, without any weapons and skills, tames the furious river god through understanding and empathy. The boy listens to the river’s grievances and eventually becomes one with it. The book is rich in cultural details, including the daily life, tools, architecture, and jade totems of the Liangzhu people. The artworks are created using the traditional technique of Iwa Enogu painting, which employs ground mineral pigments, animal glue, and intricate carving techniques. This book expresses the essence of ancient Chinese civilization and the wisdom of living in harmony with nature.
